My First Speech
It has been an overwhelming week for me. The sudden change of my schedule because of school ended up being ok with me adjusting to it but leaving me extremely exhausted especially on Tuesdays and Thursdays. Thankfully, they also give me Thursdays as my day off at work, so I get to come home after school and take my nap. Since Tuesday, I haven’t been having enough sleep, but I got some yesterday. On my speech class, my professor immediately assigned us with our first speech. I could tell that everyone is very nervous during our presentation yesterday. I even told my classmates and teacher that I could hear my heartbeat louder than my voice. Although, I know every one by name because we had an exercise about it last Tuesday, they still gave me the chills.
My first speech went well. In fact, I got an A with some nice comments from our teacher. I try not to be nervous again on my next speech. It wasn’t that bad really and seeing the look of my classmate’s faces who seemed to be very interested got me to keep talking. In fact, it was only supposed to be a 2 minute talk, and I turned it into a 2.35 minute talk. Good thing my teacher did not deduct points for that. Well he said, it is a refresher or a practice for the major ones we are going to have.
I am so thankful that even if I am having a hard time doing both school and work, but I just love going to school this semester because my two professors are just awesome. They are just great! My astronomy class is exciting but not the Math part. Thankfully, I have Dada to teach me and show me in that. He even told me last night that Math he could help me but not so much with English. I’ll take that anytime.
Here is my sheet back from my teacher.
Solid eye contact – but focus on both sides of the room.
Excellent vocal inflection and enthusiasm!
Good details. Thanks for sharing.
Lesson is very clear. Nicely Done
At the beginning of our class, I expressed to our teacher how concern I was because I was not a native English speaker. He told me that as long as I go by the criteria, I should be ok.He also added that over the spring another student came up to him with the same concern who ended Acing the class both written and oral. I wish I could be the same. On another hand, the only thing that he dinged me was the eye contact. The class is divided into two, and I kept on looking in one side of the class and not the other side which 90% of the us did. I am so excited and looking forward to the next class.
