Observant
Frankie has been really so observant lately. He never ceases to amaze all of us here. Last week, we were at church and he was sitting very well listening to the homily. They didn’t have vacation bible story that day, so he was with us the entire time. He occasionally look back because there was a baby boy behind us, and he likes saying hi to him. He must be 8 months old. Every time he did that, Ryan whispered to him and told him to look to the front. When Father Dennis said in his homily, “like the blood of Christ that we share,” Frankie looked at me and Ryan and whispered to Ryan that we do not drink the blood of Christ because that is yucky. Ryan looked at me and I looked at him. It was hard to explain to a four year old about the symbolism and its meaning. I didn’t even realize that about that age, but I learned it when I was way older. He seem to forget about it when we left church, but if he will ask me again about it, I will definitely tell him about it.
Recently, he has been asking about Santa. We have one Santa statue that I got from last year, and we placed it on the side of our Christmas tree. He asked me today where is Santa going to get the money to buy him the presents that he asked him. I told him that it is a good question. He thinks that Santa do not have that much money, so he can’t be asking too much that he could be afford. He got a goodie bag from the Filipino Christmas party and in it was a $2.00 bill. When he got home, he came up to our Santa and told him that he could use the $2.00 that he got. One dollar for the other one he wanted him to buy and the other one is for the other gift he wants Santa to get him. At least he knows that asking for a present is very costly these days and that is why he is only asking for two.
The last that I thought was funny was about the wrapper. I was wrapping a gift that Ryan and I donated as a door prize for the Filipino Christmas Party last Saturday. He came up to me and asked if Santa will be using the same wrapping paper to wrap his gifts because Santa is watching his budget. I told him I don’t know or he might since there was still a lot of wrapping paper. The next day, Ryan got him another set of wrapper just in case and hid it away. He was afraid that Frankie might put one by one together and figure it out. We have an observant kid in our midst.
