Too Late
I was out with Ryan yesterday, and we watched the movie Sherlock Holmes down in Bradley. On our way home, I asked him what is he going to do if something happens to one of his grandparents in Georgia? The questions just came to me out of nowhere. Ryan’s grandparents are in their early 90s and late 80s, and although they are healthy for their age, it is inevitable that something in the future might happen. Ryan’s answer was we are going to drive down there to be with the rest of the relatives. I looked at him and said that is very sad. He asked me why and I told him that while they are still alive, we do not make the effort to see them and now that they are gone it is when we make a trip to see them. Don’t you think its too late? He thought for a while and said that I am right, and we will make a trip to see them this summer.
We have been to Georgia for four times to spend time with his grandparents. They are just the loveliest people and a wonderful host. I know that they could not travel anymore that was why we are the ones that will be going there. I hope Ryan doesn’t need to take another summer classes, so we can finally go. We wanted to go down there last summer, but Ryan took a couple of classes that prevented us from traveling. It makes me really happy that we are planning to see them. It is also nice for mama to get to different states too.
The same thing with going home to the Philippines. I don’t want to be that person that only goes home because someone in the family died, but did not go home before then. I was really worried when I didn’t go home for five years because of my job, getting the house, getting pregnant with Frankie, starting another job and so on. I thought for once maybe I was just making excuses but I was not. Let us not forget how expensive it is to fly to the Philippines too. I am just glad that I was able to see everyone back home for two consecutive years. I don’t know when will I be able to go home next time, but I hope it won’t be for another many years.
